Interview with Rob Mence, Sales Manager at AOL Networks

Interview with Rob Mence

1.What does your typical day look like?

Jumping on my motorbike, spending the day discussing digital advertising and then visiting prospects and current clients. Each day varies and that’s why I enjoy it.

2. What digital strategies have you used to get your
brand out to the market?

I have found LinkedIn a great tool to promote awareness, but it’s often too global to get local results. Email campaigns are successful at driving attendance for our workshops too.

3. What do you see as your biggest challenge within the world of digital?

Getting attention! There are so many great products discussed on a day-to-day basis, that getting a company to sit down to embrace and consider their options requires a lot of co-operation and understanding.

4. What do you see as your most exciting opportunity within the world of digital?

Changing the way digital ads are perceived. People see them as a burden to viewing and the biggest opportunity is to change them into their own content. Something users will want to see.

5. What are your top 3 industry tips?

  1. Debate new topics with peers to keep up to date.
  2. Identify your focus within your industry.
  3. Be progressive.

6. How do you stay up to date with the industry and latest technology?

7. What did you aspire to be when you were younger?

Computer programmer!  I always knew I would work in tech, and I could code so a programmer was logical. However, it never came naturally to me – unlike business!

8. What do you enjoy most about your job?

Seeing clients and solving problems. Even better when it’s a problem they didn’t even realise they had!

9. Why do you love ‘digital’?

It’s such a fast moving environment. It never stops innovating, especially the advertising space.

10. What’s the future of digital?

Massive acceleration, change and complete ecosystem restructuring … When they’ll stop saying it’s ‘the year of the mobile’!

That concludes our Digital & Wise interview. A special thanks to Rob for sharing both his time and thoughts.
